Engine Performance Engineer – Combat Jet & Cryogenic Engines

Location: Pune, India (Hybrid Available)

Scope of Work

We are seeking an Engine Performance Engineer to model, analyze, and optimize the performance of advanced combat jet engines and cryogenic rocket propulsion systems. You will be responsible for full mission cycle modeling, transient response evaluation, and performance trade studies under various operating conditions, contributing to design validation and digital twin simulation environments.

Nature of Work

  • Develop and calibrate engine performance models using software like NPSS, Gasturb, or custom in-house tools
  • Perform parametric studies for thrust, SFC, TWR, thermal margins, and mission-based fuel consumption
  • Assess afterburner and nozzle performance under various altitude and speed regimes
  • Evaluate transient behavior, stall/surge margins, and engine acceleration/deceleration profiles
  • Interface with control systems engineers to define FADEC logic and operability limits
  • Support testbed validation campaigns and correlate model predictions with test data
  • Generate engine decks and performance maps for integration with aircraft-level simulations

Job Requirements

  • B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Propulsion Engineering
  • 3+ years of experience in engine performance modeling (freshers with strong simulation exposure may also apply)
  • Hands-on with simulation tools: NPSS, Matlab/Simulink, Gasturb, GT-POWER, etc.
  • Understanding of Brayton cycle principles and thermodynamic balances
  • Familiarity with cryogenic engine cycles like staged combustion and expander cycle (preferred)
  • Knowledge of gas path diagnostics, health monitoring, and performance deterioration mechanisms
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills, with ability to work in multidisciplinary teams

Eligibility

  • Indian nationals or individuals authorized to work in India
  • Strong motivation for strategic indigenous propulsion development
  • Research students and professionals from GTRE, ISRO, or allied labs are welcome to apply
