Test Pilot – Combat Jet & Cryogenic Engines
Location: Bengaluru, India (On-Site Testing & Hybrid Review Duties)
Scope of Work
As a Test Pilot, you will play a critical role in the developmental flight testing and validation of advanced indigenous propulsion systems. This includes conducting test flights for next-gen turbofan combat engines and cryogenic propulsion modules. You will collaborate with engineers, safety teams, and simulation experts to define test protocols, evaluate engine behavior under real-world conditions, and document flight performance in high-risk and mission-representative scenarios.
Nature of Work
- Plan and execute experimental and certification flight tests on aircraft integrated with new engine variants
- Collaborate with propulsion engineers to define thrust schedules, afterburner regimes, and engine envelope limits
- Interpret telemetry and onboard diagnostics during and after flight tests
- Participate in ground-based test firings and simulate failure conditions for cryogenic systems
- Document and debrief test outcomes, anomalies, and pilot observations for iterative engine tuning
- Engage in safety board reviews and airworthiness assessments
- Support integration testing with airframe manufacturers and avionics developers
Job Requirements
- Military or civil Test Pilot School graduate (Empire, EPNER, USAF TPS, HAL TP School or equivalent)
- Extensive experience in testing fighter-class aircraft or high-thrust propulsion systems
- Prior exposure to supersonic or afterburning flight regimes
- Understanding of engine failure modes, flameouts, surge dynamics, and restart protocols
- Working knowledge of FADEC, onboard instrumentation, and engine control interfaces
- Strong documentation skills for post-flight reports, pilot notes, and safety board reviews
- Familiarity with cryogenic fluid behavior, insulation, and system pressurization is a plus
Eligibility
- Indian nationals with valid flying licenses or military commissioning
- Minimum 1,000 hours in fast jets or relevant test profiles (waivable for UAV operators with specialized experience)
- Ability to pass psychological and physiological assessments for high-G and high-risk profiles
- Willingness to work with experimental platforms and evolving propulsion technologies
